SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Maintenance work on the KLTX radar in Shallotte began Wednesday.
As a result, the radar will be nonoperational until around January 27th.
A new Radome is being installed at the site. Crews say its current condition makes it essential to replaced to allow for the best radar operations/performance possible.
The panels on the old Radome will be removed one at a time, and the new panels will be constructed on the tower itself once the old panels have been completely removed.
Similar to the outage caused by the pedestal replacement last January, the public and the StormTrack 3 weather team can utilize adjacent radars including: KCAE – Columbia SC, KRAX – Raleigh, NC, KMHX – Morehead City, NC, and KCLX – Charleston, SC.
